Prayers to Learn the Word… Prayers to Focus our Hearts

A disciple’s devotional life includes many aspects as we are devoted to abiding in Christ and obeying Him. Though our devotional lives may include more than what we outline in the Discipleship Process, these are aspects of our devotional lives that we want to have in common for the purposes of training, accountability and celebration.

The primary expression of our faith is through prayer but it is often difficult, especially for new followers of Jesus, to know what or how to pray.

The following prayers are drawn from Scripture and represent the kinds of prayers we pray for and with one another regularly. Use these prayers to strengthen your devotional life with the Lord.

A Prayer for Abiding in Christ

John 15:1-17

Father,
Shape my heart and help me grow in Christ.
Keep me abiding in Him today and every day.
In Christ alone, I find true life and purpose.
May Your Word transform me into His likeness,
a living proof that I am His disciple.
Let my love for Jesus be shown through obedience.
Fill me with joy in His abiding presence.
Teach me to love others with His self-giving love.
Align my life and my prayers with Your desire
for all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.
